"Après un rêve"
In "Après un rêve" (After a dream), a dream of romantic flight with a lover, away from the earth and "towards the light", is described. However, upon awakening, the dreamer longs to return to the "mysterious night" and the ecstatic falsehood of his dream. The text of the poem is an anonymous Italian poem freely adapted into French by Romain Bussine.

当最后一个和弦悄悄熄灭，你会发现，最动人的不是梦，而是醒来后仍愿沉溺的怅然。
作曲家加布里埃尔·福雷被称为“法国最含蓄的浪漫主义者”，终其一生，他都在“克制”里燃烧：普法战争扛过枪；在玛德琳教堂做管风琴师时，用琴声为巴黎送葬；1896 年起执掌巴黎音乐学院，培养出拉威尔、杜卡斯、科克兰等一代革新者。耳聋渐袭后，他反而把和声推向更幽微的半音——晚期弦乐四重奏如薄雾中的灯塔，预示了德彪西的到来。
《梦后》（Après un rêve，Op.7 No.1）写于1878 年，正值福雷与初恋玛丽安娜·德·维尔多的情感跌入低谷之时。好友、诗人罗曼·布希纳递来一首译自意大利托斯卡纳民谣的诗，福雷读后，把失恋的隐痛、宗教的静谧与对“不可能之幸福”的执念，悉数熔进 96 小节的旋律。它像一封被揉皱的情书，被无数人揣进口袋：失恋者听见恳求，漂泊者听见归途，失眠者听见仍在呼吸的夜。
